Dallas Scene of the Day: ‘Pam, I’m Sorry’

Bobby Ewing, Dallas, Ewing Connection, Pam Ewing, Patrick Duffy

Sorry, not sorry

In “The Ewing Connection,” an eighth-season “Dallas” episode, Bobby and Pam (Patrick Duffy, Victoria Principal) sit and drink on her living room sofa.

PAM: You know, right now, I can’t help but think about all those times we talked about moving away from Southfork.

BOBBY: [Sighs] It is peaceful here.

PAM: I think things would have worked out differently for us if we’d gotten away from the Ewing family.

BOBBY: And if I hadn’t gotten so involved in the company.

PAM: Well, after J.R. was shot, nothing was ever the same, was it?

BOBBY: You and I were on our way to California. And the family found us and asked us to come back. And I took over control of the company until J.R. got better.

PAM: And after that, you never got the company out of your blood.

BOBBY: I guess not.

PAM: We could have gotten a house of our own. I think it would have been better for us.

BOBBY: Well, we shouldn’t sit around here and play what might have been, huh? [Sets down his drink, rises]

PAM: No.

BOBBY: It’s late. I’d better be going.

PAM: I guess so.

They kiss.

BOBBY: Pam, I’m sorry.

PAM: [Puts her hand to his lips, smiles] No, no, no.

BOBBY: Good night.

PAM: Good night.

  1. Pam was right about a house of their own, I always thought that Pam and Bobby in a house of their own in Dallas was better for them. I know due to the show’s setting all under the same roof they would never place in a house of their own but it would have been great to see though. Then the moment their eyes met you could see how much they wanted the kiss thanks to PD and VP facial expressions, did Bobby apologize for kissing her or stopping?? I think if Jenna was not in jail at this time the next encounter they had like this which was earlier in “Swan Song” Bobby would have gave in and made love to her at that time!!!

    • YES! Although I’m glad they saved that scene for “Swan Song.”

    • I think Bobby wanted to kiss Pam but he might have been worried he was leading her on to because at that moment they couldn’t be together like they may have wanted to be. Plus that could be why Bobby left immediately after they kissed because he knew if he stayed longer something more might have happened. Also maybe Bobby didn’t want to make love to Pam while Jenna was in jail because they both would have felt guilty afterwards.

  2. While I’m glad Bob & Pam reconnected he really should have married Jenna since Pam & Bob divorced anyway after her horrifying accident & disfigurement, one again leaving Son Christopher once again motherless.

    • You think Bobby should have married a woman he was not in love with and be miserable for the rest of his life? Pam was going to marry Mark a man she was not in love with only because he was dying, so when he died she would not have been unhappy she would be if Bobby did marry Jenna. I was glad when Mark found out about his illness and died before he could marry Pam because he did not deserve a life with her, just like I was glad Bobby dumped Jenna before making a mistake and marry her because he was obligated to.

    • That poor kid. Cursed Christopher.

    • Bobby when he chose Pam over Jenna had no idea what was going to happen in the future and i think even if he knew what was going to happen he still would have chosen Pam because he was in love with her and not Jenna.

  3. Stephen Rouse says:

Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire” would have been perfect for this scene.
