The good son
In “No Good Deed,” a first-season “Dallas” episode, Bobby (Patrick Duffy) visits Miss Ellie’s Southfork gravesite.
BOBBY: I spent the last 20 years trying to protect this land. Protect your legacy. I remember you once told me that family is like baking a cake from scratch. Real messy. I wish I could tell you things are different, Mama, but they’re not. Our family is as fractured and dysfunctional as always. And I keep trying to think what you’d do if you were here. But I know: You’d do whatever it takes to protect the family. And that’s just what I’m gonna do, Mama.
I loved that Bobby was a central focus in this episode and the way he goes from warm-hearted to cold (When dealing with Vicente.)
Yeah, I was particularly fond of his scene with Vicente. “I think it would be in your best interest to get the hell out of my house!” (I wonder if Jock and Ellie ever wished they could say that to their adult children?)
LOL! One thing I notice about Dallas classic, every season I tend to dislike a main character. But it’s not in a ‘bad’ way that you wish they were off the show.
Season 2 it was Sue Ellen and her slushy neglect, season 3 it was Pam and her cold neglect and Kristin’s phoniness, season 4 so far it’s Bobby and his busy neglect and gasp! Miss Ellie’s possessiveness, blaming Ray and Jock because she wants everyone crammed in that South Fork estate and refuses to realize that sometimes families just simply can’t live together.
Funny though, no matter how lousy he is, J.R is J.R and you know that will never change so you deal with it. He’s the constant.
I had the same experience watching ‘LOST.’ lol. And my ‘J.R’ on that show was Sawyer. (Though he did make major changes by the end.)
It’s funny you mention Sawyer from “Lost.” Before TNT announced the new “Dallas,” I used to envision a sequel series with Josh Holloway as John Ross. The actor has a similar charm to Larry Hagman. Plus, I bet Holloway looks good in a Stetson. He’d be a little too old for the role, but that sort of thing has never stopped the “Dallas” casting directors before. Of course, now that we have Josh Henderson in the role, I can’t imagine anyone else playing John Ross.
I wish someone would give Josh Holloway his own show. He was fantastic in Lost and like Hagman can be a charming, handsome creep! LOL.
Not quite a Stetson but hot nonetheless! 😀

Indeed!
Oh, and season 1 Lucy annoyed me to death!
Ha ha. Are you referring to the first five episodes? I liked Lucy a lot back then. She was such a troublemaker!
Yeah! I liked how she matured through the seasons.
Oh and I think Josh Henderson looks a lot like baby John Ross in the early show, they have similar huge brown eyes. So cute.
Oh wait, my mistake Henderson has one blue and one green eye. But he and the baby have similar big eyes. The better to look innocent! 😀
Oh and one thing I love about the original, Barbara Bel Geddes and Patrick Duffy really look like they can be mother and son. It’s in the sloped hazel eyes. Great casting.
