Tonight on #DallasChat: ‘Gone Darlin’ Gone’

Dallas, J.R. Ewing, Larry Hagman

The departed

Dallas Decoder’s next #DallasChat on Twitter will be Monday, July 22, from 9 to 10 p.m. Eastern time. Our theme: “Gone Darlin’ Gone,” which I’ll explain at the beginning of tonight’s discussion.

As usual, I’ll tweet a question roughly every five minutes. Each question will be numbered and include the hashtag #DallasChat, so your responses should do the same. A few pointers:

• During the chat, enter #DallasChat in Twitter’s search field. This will help you watch the search results so you can follow the conversation. Click “All” to see all the related tweets.

• Include the hashtag #DallasChat in each tweet you send so others can see your contributions to the conversation. Feel free to start side conversations of your own.

• Twitter limits the number of tweets each users can send an hour, so I’m unable to respond to everyone’s answers. I’ll reply to some and “favorite” the others, but please know how much I appreciate everyone’s participation.

I look forward to another lively discussion. See you tonight!

  1. I don’t have a twitter account, so couldn’t participate in this but for best recasting I’m surprised no one mentioned Ted Shackelford replacing David Ackroyd as Gary Ewing! Guess we all just think of him as the only Gary!!!

    • Ted Shackelford is an amazing actor. He certainly is one of the show’s best recasts. Who do you think is the worst recast?

      • Like with most people it has to be Donna Reeds Miss Ellie. Maybe if they’d kept her in the background for a few episodes and stuck to something more like the BBG portrayal for a few weeks and then say have her confess to Pam that she feels like shes stuck in a rut, then Pam could give her the makeover and Donna Reed could ease into her version of Miss Ellie. Now we could cheer Miss Ellie’s growth!

The other one I struggle with is Priscilla Presley as Jenna Wade. If they had to bring back Jenna then it would have been good to bring back Morgan Fairchild. From what I remember she was really good on Flamingo Road and could have made Jenna VERY interesting. John Beck was on that show too so it would have added a surreal element to have Bobby and Pam’s love interests have been lovers on another show. Kinda like with Martha Scott who played Linda Grays mom and Lee Majors Mom on the Six Million Dollar Man!

      • I loved Morgan Fairchild as Jenna too. She brought a different dimension to the character that I really liked. The John Beck/”Flamingo Road” connection never occurred to me. Don’t you just love how small the classic TV universe is sometimes?

What do you think?
