J.R. was the love of Sue Ellen’s life, but how much did she care for the men with whom she cheated during their marriage?

Among her flings: J.R.’s arch rival, Cliff Barnes; little John Ross’s camp counselor, Peter Richards; investment banker Nicolas Pearce; and of course, everyone’s favorite rodeo cowboy, Dusty Farlow.

I think the only one of her suitors that she really truly loved was Dusty, but he seemed to be useless in helping her stop drinking and actually was her enabler but she didn’t realize that. I really do believe that she loved JR and that he was the love of her life. If she didn’t love him, she would not have cared about his cheating on her!

  2. Sue Ellen has an enormous heart. I think she really felt for everyone she was with. The only exception may be Cliff Barnes. I think she loves the idea of doing the worst possible, meanest, and most effective way to get back at her husband J.R. Ewing. She has a long affair with his worse enemy and he repays her with getting together with her sister. The rest of the men, it looks like to me, she really seemed to care about.

  3. She didn’t love Peter Richards Miss Jenny. He was an arrogant child!

  4. Sue Ellen Ewing is a fictitious character. I would rather applaud the actress Linda Gray for the excellent acting and point shame toward Cynthia Cidre for poorly writing the character on Dallas TNT.

  5. I hope that New Dallas will soon give Sue Ellen a love interest (maybe bring back Lee Majors). She’s an attractive, interesting character who deserves a better storyline than this falling off the wagon thing again.

  6. I watched the first eJpisode of Dallas in the early seventies and was hooked immediately. It was only after the first season the producers recognized Linda Gray for the talented actor she truly was. The most entertaining was her relationship with Dusty. I only wished she would have remained with him, but of course the story line never allows for happy endings. Linda Gray was and is one of the best actors on the show. She definitely contributed to the success and longevity of the show and continues to do so now. Thanks for bringing the show back, it was the most entertaining show in the 70’s and 80’s and I don’t miss an episode of the new season.

Sue Ellen did truly love Dusty and she did love Cliff at some point. She did use Cliff in the beginning to hurt JR but she fell in love with him after. Then the whole who is the father of John Ross thing, Cliff rejecting her and she feeling used by him and JR change how she felt about Cliff. She did not love Peter (the boy) nor Nicholas.

    • I think you’re right, although I do wonder about Nicholas. Her feelings for him seemed genuine, or at least that’s how I remember it. It’s been a while since I watched those episodes.

Sue ellen was A women who had lots off love to give to a man ,but my deep personal view on this subject is that there was on one man made for her and whom she was made for and that was jr because even when I watch her with dusty I can see love in her eyes for someone else jr Ewing . Jr is a dark man but he so very much loves sue ellen – that’s why he married her – and she him . They are so very alike in so many ways! They have the best romance on dallas! Everyone else got divorced such palm and bobby/ Donna and Ray but jr always was with sue ellen . Even though they were divorced once or twice they got back together – they really have true love!

But dusty cliff and others were not the men she loved she only used them to help her through times when he true love was negating her for his own need – he’s jr of course!- so if you see old dallas episodes remember to look out for sue Ellen’s subtle signs that she is meant for jr. . .
