The Ewing Barbecues were one of the original “Dallas’s” best traditions. Do you have a favorite?
Was it Jock and Digger’s disastrous reunion during the first-season finale, or Pam’s tragic fall from the hayloft at the end of that episode? How about Sue Ellen and Cliff’s flirty dance during the first barbecue of 1982, or the Ewings’ tense showdown with the cartel at that year’s second hoedown? What about Jamie and Marilee’s bitchy confrontation in 1984, or Dandy Dandridge’s drunken shooting spree in 1987?

My favorite was the barbecue where Digger first shows up and Jock angrily confronts him! Excellent performances from both Jim Davis and David Wayne!
Agreed Miss Jenny. I however like it when Afton Cooper lets Brother J.R. bone her in his marriage bed at I think it was Lucky Lucy & Mitch’s engagement soiree at Southfork! Of course its not the sex that’s exciting, its the anticipation as to whether or not Miss Texas was going to look under the covers as she was untrusting of Miss Cooper.
I definitely have to go with the cartel showdown during the fight for Ewing Oil in Barbeque Three. This for me always definited the ultimate functional disfunctional family if that makes any sense. Think of the Ewings as functional alcholics when it comes to family relations. Yes they tear each other apart within the walls of Ewing Oil or at home at Southfork, but for the huge majority of CBS (and it’s even a tradition more or less in tact at TNT) the Ewings always unite against outside threats. This BBQ absolutely epitimizes that.
My favorite…The Ewings always stood together against outsiders.
My favourite scene was when Jamie dunked Marilee, for some reason JR asking Marilee whether ‘the water went up your nose, honey’ really tickles me.
They’re all good but I think my favorite was during the battle for Ewing Oil and Ray and Bobby had to keep the Cartel from tearing JR apart. Right after that, Miss Ellie announced that she was going to contest the Jock’s Will and that set off some incredible storylines.
I’d have to go with the Cartel showdown. I really liked the first Ewing BBQ with jock and digger, but the characters and storylines were not fully developed yet, so you did not have the action packed, interwoven stories lines like you did at subsequent BBQs
